The Ask: SRS Acquiom's Loan Agency Dashboard had been built by a developer first. It worked technically but wasn't working for the people using it. They needed it redesigned from the ground up to serve three completely different user types (lenders, borrowers, legal teams) without making any of them feel like the tool was built for someone else.

Loan Agency Dashboard

Before designing anything I worked with the SRS Acquiom team on strategy and ideation to understand what the tool actually needed to be. The developer-built version told us what was technically possible. The user conversations and stakeholder sessions told us what actually mattered. Those two things weren't always the same.

The key insight was that different user types needed very different entry points into the same underlying data. A lender looking at portfolio-level summaries has a completely different mental model than a legal team tracking document uploads and deal milestones. The information architecture had to serve both without making either feel like they were navigating something built for someone else.

Treating the three user types as distinct personas, rather than designing one experience and hoping it stretched to fit everyone, was the most important process decision on this project.

In financial services, clarity is a feature. Every screen in this dashboard had to earn its complexity. If something was hard to read, hard to find, or hard to trust, it was a design problem regardless of whether the data was correct. The visual design had to feel as solid and reliable as the platform itself.

I started with information architecture, mapping the full scope of data the dashboard needed to surface and organizing it around user goals rather than system logic. From there I moved into wireframes, testing hierarchy and navigation structure before committing to visual design. In financial services, clarity is a feature. Every screen had to earn its complexity. If something was hard to read, hard to find, or hard to trust, it was a design problem regardless of whether the data was correct.

The first real design iteration of the SRS Acquiom Loan Agency Dashboard took a functional but rough developer build and transformed it into a product that lenders, borrowers, and legal teams could actually trust to manage their most complex deals.

What I'm most proud of on this project is the strategy work that happened before a single screen was designed. The original build had all the right data. What it didn't have was a point of view about who was using it and why. Getting clear on that first made every design decision easier. That's the work I find most interesting. Understanding the problem deeply enough that the solution starts to feel obvious.
